Montclair State Interns Receive Prestigious Apprentice Award
Three of Montclair State University’s interns, Julie Bradley, John Fletcher and Tara Kupoglu, were recipients of the prestigious Apprentice Award at the Dining Spaces Tabletop Design Competition on Monday, March 19th held at Mayfair Farms in West Orange. Dining Spaces is an annual fundraiser implemented by a group of professional event planners, entertainers, and vendors in the International Special Events Society (ISES). The competition attracts professional decorators, event planners and any interested parties to design a tabletop that is judged by professionals and the public. A portion of the net proceeds from the event went towards the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, North Jersey Affiliate.
Audience Pleasers, represented by the three interns, chose to convey a Carnival theme. This was specifically chosen because we are all kids at heart, recalling the exhilarating rides and games, as well as the delicious food. After three months of careful attention to detail and patience, the interns constructed a custom made “shadow box” table, and assembled “to scale” carnival rides, booths, and people. In addition, they glued special wallpaper to portray landscaped scenery, meticulously installed miniature trees, and placed a train track, bedding and all, to enhance a realistic setting. Rising above the table was a custom made carnival hot air balloon, and all of the dishes, silverware, bottles and napkin holders were designed or purchased to keep with the consistent carnival theme. Outside of the table, a special antique 8’ x 10’ carnival scene served as a colorful backdrop, red and white drapery created the feeling of being in a circus tent, and red and white balloons accented the table on either side. Audience Pleasers will use the Dining Spaces table in their new conference room where they can entertain clients and recall those carnival days.
Audience Pleasers, a division of Special Event Associates, Inc., is one of the oldest and most respected full-service event planning companies in the US. The company, established in 1970, has a staff of multi-talented entertainment professionals serving clients demanding high levels of service, expert advice/knowledge, and customized business and personal solutions. Their focus is to make your event memorable and special, and at the same time, to relieve you of the stress normally associated with planning an event so that you can really enjoy it.
The International Special Events Society (ISES) was founded in 1987 in response to phenomenal growth in the industry, a growing demand for promoting professionalism, and providing continuing education. ISES is the only international association that serves as an umbrella organization bringing together the many different disciplines involved in the special events industry. It is comprised of over 2,800 professionals in 27 countries representing special events producers (from festivals to trade shows), caterers, decorators, florists, destination management companies, rental companies, special effects experts, tent suppliers, audio-visual technicians, party and convention coordinators, balloon artists, educators, journalists, hotel sales managers, specialty entertainers, convention center managers, and many more.
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, North Jersey Affiliate, will receive 25% of net proceeds from the event’s fundraising efforts. This worthy group, based in Summit, NJ, was established in 1997 on a promise “to make a difference” to a ten-year old girl who lost her mother to breast cancer. Affiliate Board of Trustees, Medical Advisory Board, staff and over 700 volunteers spanning nine counties in Northern New Jersey fulfill that promise each day by delivering the life-saving message of early detection.
