ISES NJ North Meets to Discuss Innovative Ideas for Current Economy
MONTCLAIR, N.J. – ISES New Jersey North Chapter met at Chakra Restaurant, to discuss new and unique ways to keep their businesses growing while in the current economy. Dennis Telischak, who is on the board of directors and president –elect of ISES NJ North, lead the meeting with a PowerPoint presentation detailing the current situation and bringing light to the future of the special events industry.
With major financial firms closing, such as Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch and Lehman Brothers, other companies do not want to have their customary big parties for fear of being flamboyantinflamboyant in down times. In order to decrease the costs, organizations are looking for ways to appear less lavish . Some ways to downsize their events, by number of people and venue options, Mr. Telischak offered his suggestions to the group, to forward them to their clients in attempt to keep the corporate events going. Some of the tips were to have more interactive parties, such as role playing within a murder mystery theme, propose employees bring home-cooked dishes, reduce the amount of elaborate décor at event, eliminate open bar options or make a limited choice of beer or win, and no gift exchanges. Telischak also suggested having elements of the party serve multi-purposes; for example the centerpieces can be teddy bears for decoration then after the event has concluded donating them to a children’s hospital. Ornate dessert displays can serve as a table’s focal point, as well as holding your delicious treats. There were a number of resolutions to keep the events inexpensive. “You can still get in the spirit without going into debt,” Dennis optimistically said.
